‘evolution’ Visualising Chianti Classico Reserva 2011
Chianti is a red wine from Italy, known for its red fruit, mushroom and wet forest floor aromas. What is interesting about Chianti wines is that when you let them age, they evolve beautifully adding layers of complexity and elegance to their taste and smell. Through this painting, I have tried to capture the concept of age. To me maturity is not about fading away of appearances but is an evolution of the mind. The stretched mesh in painting depicts the peeling away of our mental barriers as we mature to reveal a beautiful and wise soul

‘let music be the light’
Music is the light that shines upon the darkness of gloom to spread joy and beauty. This painting captures the note of a song stuck in your head, making you sway to the symphony of the notes for long.
The idea for this painting was inspired by a Bordeaux wine that I tasted. The blue, red, violet, brown colour palate is the reflection of the aromas of the wine which showed Kirsch, red plum, black plum, blue flowers, liquorice, chocolate, cinnamon, perfumed black tea and start anise aromas. There is a gentle play between these elements and the core idea of music to create a harmony that I experienced during my wine tasting. The taste of this wine lingers on the palate for long and hence this visualisation of music that one keeps humming with a feeling of joy, happiness and creation.

‘the girl within’ Clos De Vougeot burgundy 1993
A burgundy wine with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, violet, rose, vanilla, sandalwood, truffle, mushrooms and meat. A finish that kept lingering and dancing in my mouth for long. The wine was elegant, restrained but not shy of fruit. It had a fleshy roundness that captivated my mouth. This wine had 20 years of bottle age and yet displayed vibrancy and freshness of the fruit.
My interpretation of this wine was that of a lady, one who may have aged but is still a girl at heart. A woman who may be quiet but isn’t shy, elegant but one who hides a naughty side. A woman with a musk of rose and violet, and one who dances exuberating youth and freshness.

‘duality’ vigna cinque Taurasi wine 2015
A wine of power. Bold black fruits, cigar, meat, earth and pencil led aromas make it a savoury, delight. Sage and spices add to its depth and the tannins, coat the mouth in a wet sandy manner making you go in, deep contemplation. It is a powerful wine on the exterior, but as you let it hold, it starts showing its softer more beautiful aspect.
My painting tries to capture this dual masculine-feminine aspect of the wine. I start the painting with an excerpt from Edgar Alan Poe poem to cue vulnerability and then go on to explore the wine further with the translucent strokes of my brush to highlight the sheer nakedness of the feelings, which are often hidden behind the garb of masculinity.

‘the invitation’
Visualising Barrel
Fermented Chardonnay 2022
OfCourse the story began with a sip, the aromas and flavours of night jasmine, lemon, pineapple, orange, butter, and layers of freshness all captured my thoughts. But then I got carried away by the lusciousness, the caress of silk in my mouth. It was almost like the lips that taste it, become it. Lips are a metaphor I have used to describe this wine I am portraying in my work of art. I was invited in the juicy allure of the wine at my first sip.
My painting portrays fuller, luscious and juicy lips of a woman to cue all the characteristics of this Chardonnay wine.

‘opulent dreams’
Visualising Clos De Papes
Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007
This is an indulgence for your senses. I wanted to be flamboyant in my selection of colours and strokes to present this wine. Rich, complex and voluptuous, this Chateauneuf-du-Pape hit me with its aromas, acidity and fruit play - BBQ plum sauce, iodine, white truffle, fig dipped in Asian sauce, crème de cassis, game, crushed cherries, and young leather. The core, full and concentrated and velvet like tannins, make it a sinfully good wine. And why is this painting split unlike the others? Well, a Chateauneuf Du Pape always stands apart from the rest.

‘rose whispers’
Visualising Luigi Pira Barolo
Marenca 2013
Can wine be your partner for an evening spent alone, loving, nurturing and caressing yourself?
When delicate rose petals, violets intermingle with lush juicy red berries and one gets to taste this foreplay of fruits with an orgasmic medley of mocha and wet forest floor, it makes you love not lust. This wine presented mellowed aromas and a gentle play of flavours - red fruits, rose petals, dried flowers, herbs, sandalwood, leather, rust, tobacco. Powdery tannins spread across. Palate, balanced by the acidity of wine. Soft but not shy. Fluid but strong. This wine gives you a well cushioned floral-fruit punch!

‘breathless expectation’
Visualising Cavallotto Barolo
Bricco Boschis 2009
What happens when you do not allow a wine time to breathe? It remains tight and closed. Through my painting I wanted to show how the aromas of burlap, black tea and rust masked the beauty of this wine. One could see glimpses of bright red berries – cranberries, raspberries, tart black plum hiding behind the sandy tannins and the earthy aromas of this wine. The medium garnet color of the wine indicated its age and one knew this wine could give more because of the vibrancy of the fruit and acidity. The approach was almost linear with red berries at core. it is only a matter of time before we see more from this wine. Beautifully well balanced wine given the alcohol was 14.5%.

In this painting there is a subtle visualisation of floral and fruit characteristics of a Vermentino wine. Yellow flowers, peach, pear, lemon, grapefruit. The wine was fleshy, fruit forward and bright so my selection of strokes was in accordance.

‘fifty fifty’
AN Iconic super tuscan
Sassicaia 2005
Vibrancy of fruits, spiced notes of black/blue berries and pencil led aromas. The essence of my painting lay in portraying the beautiful nose of this wine in contrast to its weak palate. With the promise of M+ acidity, a layered nose of spiced berries, blue berry, black berry, bramble, plum, pencil, lead, meat, leather, dried leaves, and wood I was expecting the wine to wow me on the palate. But I got overpowering notes of lead, dried leaves and wood instead. The tannins were punchy and combined with the acidity and body of the wine, I feel this wine needs a little more bottle age to show its true colours and not remain a 50-50 as visually interpreted in my art piece.

In this captivating visualisation, I have endeavoured to bottle the essence of a rare and coveted Burgundy wine, vintage 1976. Renowned for its fruit precision and complexity, this wine is a masterclass in nuance and balance.
My artwork transports you to a floral garden of roses, where the aromatic brilliance of the wine comes alive. The nose is a symphony of red fruits, spices, truffle, and subtle hints of complexity. On the palate, the experience unfolds like a rich tapestry, weaving together smoke, truffle, cinnamon, tobacco, and luscious fruit flavours in perfect harmony. Every sip is a testament to the wine’s aging potential and the art of Burgundian winemaking. Through my brushstrokes, I have aimed to capture the very soul of this iconic wine, inviting you to savour the essence of a bygone area.
